Surgical Treatment Of Early Gastric Cancer

Early gastric cancer is going to be an important health problem in Turkey, as screening programs will be increased. We think the main problem in the treatment in early gastric cancer is well designed and cost effective screening programs. Early gastric cancer could be the best treated cancer in the experienced centers. Especially endoscopic evaluation and an expericenced endoscopist could treat eerly gastric cancer without laparatomy. Of course a good pretreatment staging with endosonography and computed tomography shoul be performed. Also laparascopic surgery for early gastric cancer should be encourged.As an important part of treatment lymph node dissection in early gastric cancer is shifting to sentinel lymph node biopsy rather than D1 or D2 lymph node dissection. Laparascopic surgery cancer will be gold standart for early gastric cancer but we need prospective and randomized data for results of the sentinel lymph node biopsy in the early gastric cancer.Keywords: Stomach neoplasms; endoscopy, gastrointestinalTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2007, 3(44):24-30
